As we wrap up harvest for the season with freezing temperatures on their way we look forward to next weekend’s Harvest Celebration Banquet recognizing and acknowledging the tangible results from this summer’s DIRT GROUP. We have harvested bushels of tomatoes, peppers, onions, and herbs as well as pumpkins, potatoes, cabbage, and brussel sprouts. Although our growing season began very late due to snow and cold into May this year, we still had many successes and provided rich social skills training opportunities for many youth.
This past week we went to Earthrise Farm and began turning our green cabbage into sauer kraut and using our chocolate mint to make chocolate mint ice cream! The ducks, turkeys, and chickens continue to grow and will soon look like adult birds in another 4-6 weeks.
